gorgeous photos
This is our "indulgences" section...
We've included a few pikkies of friends, family & us
from dances, partying and at home...
And we'll probably throw in some other bits 'n' pieces,
possibly surprising both you and ourselves...
Nothing is in any particular order or sequence,
because it's just developing as it goes...
If you have stuff you think might suit
the 'flavour' of the gorgeous site - please
send it and we'll say "thank you" where we use it...
This page can take a little while to load - we hope
you agree that it's worth a 'little wait'...

We hadn't danced in any comps for almost 3 years - just far too busy with gorgeous - little Maria asked Mary to enter the Open Competition with her at the South East Australian Championships...
Then with literally only a 10 minute impromptu practice session just
before the comp started, they made the Open Comp Final...
Needless to say, they were both rapt...

absolutely fabulous dancers & worthy winners of

Geelong Jukebox Rockers had a "back to the 20's night
here's a few pikkies from that fabulous night
|

This time at Geelong Jukebox Rockers, the dance was a "Hippy Night",
& as with all the Geelong theme nights, a great time was had by all
We were very impressed with the Band, one we hadn't previously seen
The're called "The Jump Devils", & played an awesome mix of rock 'n' roll,
blues, boogie woogie & jump swing - check out their site at:
A FUNNY STORY
Ray in a moment of "who knows what" bought an imitation dope plant a
few years ago, & "resurrected" it for the Geelong "Hippy Night"
One of the staff at the premises was obviously "taken in"
He rushed in to tell Barb (the Club President) that someone had walked
into the dance with a marijuana plant - & what should he do ???
It's fair to say that everyone just fell about laughing &
that it was the "talking point" of the night
We've seen plenty of Elvis performers in our time, but Derek Lewis
is definitely one of the best we've ever enjoyed watching
Especially Mary - as you can see below
Derek doesn't yet have a web site - you can contact him on 0417 126 310
Mary is now an Aussie
After migrating from Malta to Australia over 38 years
ago, Mary has finally taken up Australian Citizenship
The only thing that I (Ray) can't figure out is:
"If Mary is now an Aussie, how come she
still has her Maltese accent ???"

this is your spot to indulge...
if you'd like to see your rock 'n' roll, swing or 'something else'
photo on the gorgeous website, email a pikkie with a brief
description... and this is where it will appear...
This wonderful true story was sent by Geoff of
Blue Suede Rock 'n' roll Club, Perth, Western Australia
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog.
There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.
"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."
"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.
"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.
"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.
"I'll make you a deal. Let me take him and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll grow to be a man you can be proud of."
And that he did. In time, Farmer Fleming's son graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the nobleman's son was stricken with pneumonia.
What saved him? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.
Someone once said: What goes around comes around. Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching.
It's National Friendship Week, so send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.
Pass this on, and brighten someone's day. Nothing will happen if you do not decide to pass it along. The only thing that will happen, if you DO pass it on, is that someone might smile because of you). Happy friendship week everyone!

100 days 100 stories
The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) is the largest
radio & television network in Australia, broadcasting a wide range
of programs through over 400 radio stations throughout the Country...
Melbourne radio station (3LO 774) invited contributions about
people's personal Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games memories...
3LO is the 'highest rating' radio station in the ABC network...
- - - - - - - - - -
The ABC chose 100 stories - and as the Olympic Torch
made it's 100 day journey through Australia, they broadcast
one of these stories each day leading up to the Sydney Olympics,
throughout the ABC Australian network (the 400+ radio stations)...
The ABC was the official non-commercial broadcaster of the
Ray sent in the following personal experience:
A brief story - circa 1956...
I was 14 years of age in year 10 (Intermediate) at Heidelberg Technical College…
Heidelberg Tech was located a little over 1/2 mile from the Olympic Village…
It was late November through early December and our exams were completed…
Each day we went to school, were marked off the roll - and because it was our last year there, the teachers weren't too concerned with what we did (as long as we 'behaved' ourselves)…
We had been 'hanging around' the Olympic Village very frequently during the construction period, and as a consequence, knew our way around quite well…
Almost every day leading up to and during the Games, three friends and myself would walk down to the Village, and then around to one of the rear boundaries adjacent to Darebin Creek…
We'd lift up the chain-wire fence and let ourselves in where we'd previously loosened the wire, dug a small ditch and 'camouflaged' our entry point)…
We would spend the days wandering around the Village in our school uniforms…
We'd be talking to athletes from all over the world… getting heaps of autographs, souvenir pins, badges… (wish I knew what happened to all that great stuff)…
The security people got to know us and 'turned a blind eye' - although we had to make ourselves a new 'entrance' at one time when they discovered our original one…
I remember them laughing and joking with us when they couldn't find our new entry…
I very much doubt that our shenanigans could ever be repeated - security provisions in Sydney will probably be just a 'little' more stringent than they were 44 years ago in Melbourne…
It was a long time ago, but I still recall how absolutely friendly everyone was…
I guess that's why people still refer to Melbourne as the "friendly games"…
From our perspective - an accurate historical description...

"Skype" is a fabulous utility & so easy to use - it's saving us a "bundle"
“I knew it was over when I downloaded Skype,” Michael Powell, chairman, Federal Communications Commission, explained. “When the inventors of KaZaA are distributing for free a little program that you can use to talk to anybody else, and the quality is fantastic, and it’s free – it’s over. The world will change now inevitably.”
