Lucky Strike

Shakey the vocalist and diplomat of the band, has the ability to remember words (& dubious jokes) in a very short time, and often sings in the right key. Here is just one example of his unique humour - "Were called Lucky Strike because you're lucky if we turn up & even luckier if we strike the right note" (Not wrong Shakey). Hobbies: Decorating kitchens. Searching skips for musical instruments (really)
Favourite music/artistes: Billy Fury. Slow romantic music.
|
Dave is guitarist and harmonica player, & uses a Gretsch 61201 through a Peavey amp (too loud man, too loud). Dave was enlisted in the band in its infancy under threats of physical violence ("Just until I find a proper guitarist" said Gav), but now admits it's taken over his life. Favourite music/artistes: Carl Perkins). RnR / Rockabilly (naturellement), '40's swing music, and traditional Irish music. Motors: 1942 Harley WLA and 1989 Harley Heritage.
|
Pete is resident drum basher (sorry mate, can't hear a thing) and can often be seen adding some tasteful background vocals, and that's before we start playing. Pete says he doesn't want to be a front man, which is just as well when you're surrounded by a drum kit, and you've got a fag in your mouth ! Hobbies: Old trucks & classic cars
Favourite music/artistes: Goodness only knows.
Motors: 1950's Ford Mercury.
|
Chris joined us in early 2003. He was bass player for the Whirlwind rockabilly band & toured Europe with some very famous names inc. Blondie & Ian Dury (sorry mate, I've forgotten the rest!). Chris plays a wild bass & his vocals ain't bad. He arrives at gigs with a brown fifties leather suitcase.Spare leads, pedals, strings, you might think. No - its his own cocktail cabinet, which apart from the boooze, usually contains a bag of fish 'n chips. Nice one mate!

The band, which has been playing since 1997, has its own distinct hard driving '50's sound.
Line up is Chris on slap bass, Shakey on vocals, Dave on guitar & harmonica & Pete on Drums.
Their playing is just like their comedy - "awesome" !!!
"The band is available for clubs, pubs, dances, rallies, weddings and divorces."

margaret & ron winchester
Margaret & Ron Winchester - two of the most popular dancers in the
Melbourne swing scene - & not surprisingly so...
They've been "trippin' the light fantastic" since "adam was a pup" & their
energy levels are nothing short of outstanding - wow !!!
They leave many of the younger dancers just "gasping for breath" - and
their skill on the dance floor has to be seen to be believed...
The pikkie shown in the middle of the lower line is from the 2003 Melbourne
International Arts Festival official programme, another well-deserved
"feather in their cap" - they're even featured on the official tickets
One of the other pikkies is from an article about the Melbourne swing scene printed
You can book them for demos & floorshows on 03 9740 6648 or 0412 033 932
call them - they're simply awesome...
"rockin' roy"
A small part of a very long queue waiting to dance with Roy on his 90th birthday - &
everyone wants to talk to him - his interview for the official Wintersun video...
We're patrons & members of Geelong Jukebox Rockers, & one of our
very favourite fellow club members is "Rockin' Roy"...
Roy decided at age 84 to take up rock 'n' roll dancing - he's now 93 - & he's never
looked back - his only problem is that he seldom gets a chance to sit down,
because all the gals in the club wanna keep on dancin' with him...
Roy's gone the "whole hog" - he wears our shoes, jacket, shirts - & he
certainly does "looks the part"...
It's not only his age & his incredible energy that makes him so
very popular, he's also a genuinely delightful guy...
Roy never seems to stay still - he even went on a rock 'n' roll cruise with
some of his rocker friends to celebrate his 90th birthday...
Roy is now approaching 95 years of age - & he's still there at every dance
"tripping the light fantastic" - he's an inspiration to everyone he meets...
DJ Antony
"DJ Antony" is amongst the very best of Melbourne's talented dj's...
Antony has one of the best rock 'n' roll, swing & blues CD collections around
& a smooth, professional "voice to die for" to match...
Antony (together with his business partner Roz) also runs the highly respected
"Swing 'n' Rock" dance school as well as organising dances...
He even finds time to "have a dance or two" amongst his busy schedule...
As well as plenty of social dancing (see above), dance teaching & DJ-ing,
Antony's other great passion is his Harley Davidson...
to book him for your next function or to arrange some dance lessons or to find out
when he's putting on his next dance, call or fax Antony on 03 9360 4455...
Bradlee Skinner
Brad Skinner is the dance instructor at Hurricane High School in Utah,
& his students dance in gorgeous shoes.
But there's much more to Brad than just having exceptionally "good taste"
in his choice of swing & rock 'n' roll dance shoes - :)
In a USA-wide search, Brad auditioned for a role in the Broadway production of "Rent",
& was down to the last 6 finalists - he's obviously a man of immense talent.

"Thanks again for your patience. Your business will come highly recommended to all my dance associates."
Bradlee Skinner
"The shoes arrived today at 1:00pm US mountain standard time. They are everything I hoped for and more. Your business is superb. I will be ordering those New Yorkers once you get them in and probably one or two pairs of the "Brenda's" as well. I will let you know on that later."
Bradlee Skinner
"I have been spreading the good word about your business. I hope that some of my dance associates will give their business to you as well. Talk to you soon."
Bradlee Skinner
"Just a little update. The kids love the shoes. We went to a swing dance and everyone watched them. It was wonderful. We even took pictures of the students in their shoes. We will have them up on our web page soon."
Bradlee Skinner
"Hey again. It is me, Brad from Utah. I am looking to order some more shoes from you guys. I was so pleased with the pairs I ordered last time that I will be looking at 12 to 18 pairs to buy this time. Everyone is really excited. We would be looking at some of the styles in the black and white colors again."
Bradlee Skinner
"Ok, the shoes got here, February 5th. They are great. The kids just love them. Some of them even kissed them and others rubbed them against their faces. Now if that isn't a good sign then I don't know what is. Thanks again. Let me know when the other remaining pairs are ready to be shipped. Thanks again, you guys rock!"

Oeyvind Pedersen
Oeyvind was going to a Dance Camp in Bergen & he was currently
wearing a pair of Bleyer Boogie Woogies...
But he also wanted another pair of shoes that were something a bit
different - shoes that "would set people talking"...
So Oeyvind decided on a pair of 'gorgeous' Rockabillity Flame shoes
in red, orange & black, with orange "smiley" faces on the heels...
So if you're ever at a dance in Norway- & you see some shoes with a pair
of orange smiley faces "lookin' at ya" - then be sure to say "hello",
because the person wearing them will be Oeyvind...
Watershed
There's no longer any excuse for drivin' around in a dirty car in melbourne...
Watershed not only clean your car very well - they're a 'clean' company...
The special chemicals that they use in their car wash are endorsed by BMW &
Daimler Chrysler, & they're not only formulated to 'do the job' effectively,
they're also completely biodegradable...
Even the water they use is cleaned, filtered & then recirculated...
The watershed hand-wash system is imported from the USA,
from the world leaders in car wash technology...
Watershed have particular expertise in cleaning luxury, vintage & veteran cars,
not to mention your beloved hot rods & customs...
But if anything was going to test them, it was going to be the 'gorgeous'
1988 Mitsubishi van in which we used to cart all our gear around
in to all the dances & festivals we attend...
But "wow", they passed with flyin' colours - it's never looked so good...
So if you're smart, you'll check them out for yourself...

Rockabilly Transport
If you're in the Toowoomba Queensland area, keep your eyes open for
Rocky & Barb - you'll see them dancing in their "Jitterbugs Sneakers"
just cruisin' around in their "flaming ute"...
And if you need just about anything transported along the Aussie eastern seaboard,
from tropical Cairns to our "far-from-tropical" hometown of Melbourne - then
make sure you give Rocky a buzz for a rockin' good quote...

BEA's Melbourne branch wanted something to wear to business functions

BEA corporate colours with the BEA logo screen printed on the rear...
Here's the result...
“Thanks Gorgeous Gear for making our shirts - Thanks Nova-Star
for the screen-printing. The shirts were a great hit and
