Swing Patrol

The "name" says it all ! ! !

Swing Patrol is the largest & most succesful swing dance school
"on the face of this planet" - & that's no accident.

Swing Patrol was established in Melbourne Australia, by Claudia Funder & Scott Cupit in August 1998.

Claudia was a very experienced teacher of various dance forms including Latin, Ballroom, Rock `n' Roll & Lindy Hop.

Scott was a devotee of swing  music, playing alto sax in a gospel big band - & then on a visit to the USA, Scott saw Lindy Hop at Disneyland & again at a New Years Eve Swing Ball in Washington DC - & he was immediately “hooked”.

When Scott arrived back in Australia, he found Claudia's email address on a Sydney website - they met, found that they had a common interest, & formed Swing Patrol - the “rest is history”.

Claudia's strong dance teaching background and Scott's strong marketing background, combined to build Swing Patrol from a very modest start of just 23 students - into the current day Swing Patrol, with 51 teachers teaching around 900 students a week.

To quote Claudia & Scott:
“This whole thing just started with a genuine and breath-taking passion and love for the dance.   We just wanted other people to dance with and we NEVER dreamed Swing Patrol would become known as the largest swing school and community in the world.   Many times we stand back and just marvel at what has happened.   Sometimes we are just in shock!

The complete Swing Patrol “story” is a fabulous read - it's at: www.swingpatrol.com.au/about-swingpatrol.php

There's also an equally fabulous radio interview with Claudia about the formation of Swing Patrol, which you can listen to at: Claudia's Richard Stubbs Interview

A great many "Swing Patrollers" wear our gorgeous clothes 'n' shoes,
& gorgeous are very proud of our association with Swing Patrol.

We're also delighted to be a sponsor for many of the Swing Patrol events.

Check out their websites - as with everything about Swing Patrol,
the total dedication & professionalism just "shines through".

The highest-rating program on Australian TV is
Channel 7's "Dancing With The Stars".

When they wanted someone to choreograph the Lindy Hop dance
sequence for the Final Night, there was only one source to go to.

And that of course was Scott & Emily from Swing Patrol.

The winners of the 2006 competition were the fabulous
Anthony Koutifidis (Kouta) & Natalie.

Kouta was Captain of Carlton Australian Rules Football Club,
the greatest footy club in the known Universe.
(Whoops - there's my (Ray's) bias showing - now
everybody knows I'm a Carlton supporter)

You can watch Kouta & Nat dancing their winning
Lindy Hop routine on "You Tube" at:

Zootster

From a time when music clubs ruled and violin cases held guns come Zootster.
Robbie Zootster in cahoots with his extraordinary vocalist Rachel Thorne
fronts this "too hot to handle" 10 piece show band, destined
to thrill and most definitely dressed to kill.
With their pinstriped suits, fedora hats and wingtip shoes, Zootster bring the
class and allure of the 1940's into a modern setting boasting an extensive
dinner / dance repertoire of hits from the forties to the naughties and
are regarded as the A.C.T. region's premier corporate band.
Zootster's rhythm section is both truly stunning and versatile while the
5-piece horn section not only swings like the maddest of big bands
but also matches with the best funk line ups on offer.
Whether it's lounge, rock 'n' roll, funk, retro-swing, soul, disco or
pop, Zootster has the repertoire and experience to make your
night a delightfully enjoyable experience.
So if you're thinking of stepping back in time - or up in class, think Zootster.
Watch out for the Zootster CD - Pure Anticipation: The Pop Funk Sessions"

gorgeous Postscript
Zootster were the headline act at Jumptown swing club's Mini-Lindy Exchange in Canberra...
To put it mildly, Zootster "brought the house down" with their sensational playing, backed
up by Rachel & Robbie's stunning vocal interpretations of many great swing standards...
gorgeous gets all "goss" - we lost count of how many of the swing dance enthusiasts
(from Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney & elsewhere) told us during the night how
"blown away" they were with the Zootsters fabulous performance...
Not that we needed to be told of course - because we were there enjoying
& appreciating their playing & singing along with everyone else...

TV New Zealand's
"Dancing With the Stars"

When Claire Palmer from TVNZ needed a pair of Low-Heel Black Patent
& White Matte shoes for one of the competitors in New Zealand's
"Dancing With the Stars", she knew exactly where to go, &
what she wanted - the gorgeous "Brenda" shoe style.

Claire had previously purchased gorgeous shoes when she was involved
in the production of New Zealand's acclaimed TV series "The Tribe".

They were to be worn by New Zealand's world class Latin dancer Nerida Jantti,
partnering one of the best sportsmen in the Country, Monty Betham.

Nerida has a most impressive dancing pedigree, starting at age 15, she has
represented New Zealand at the World Latin Competition in Germany, the
Singapore Latin Open's, & has been placed in the Australian Latin
Championships.   Nerida's latest passion is Belly Dancing.

Nerida also partnered Shane Cortese into the Series One Final.

Monty has an incredibly impressive sporting record, having captained
"The Warriors" & the "Wakefield Trinity Wildcats" in the UK, played
in over 100 NRL & Super League Games - & then went onto
an unbeaten Boxing career, picking up New Zealand,
Australian & Commonwealth titles along the way.

You can see the video of Nerida & Monty "Dancin' the Jive" to
LeRoy Brown from the TVNZ website at: www.tvnz.co.nz

Two of Us

And "boy" - are these 2 guys so coooool !!!

We'd been hearing quite a bit about Steve & Allan for some time, but
up until last year, we'd never actually seen them perform.

There's not many 2-man shows which really turn us on, because they
usually can't generate enough "oomph" or onstage "presence".

But this is certainly not the case with "Two of Us".

They utilise a series of backing tracks, most of which they've personally
pre-recorded - giving them very much a "full band" sound.

They have an incredibly huge repertoire - including Rock 'n' Roll,
Old Time, 60/40, Ballads - & even quiet Dinner Music.

As you can see from our comments - we're mightily impressed.

The "test" of any performers playing to a dance crowd, always
comes right back to "how full is the dance floor" ?

The above picture "tells the story".

From being doubters prior to seeing & hearing the "Two of Us",
we now enthusiastically recommend them.

You can contact the guys for your next gig, party or event at:
tel:   03 5338 2183
mob:   0412 810 540
cowboy@ncable.net.au

And make sure that you ask about their new CD when you
contact them - it's titled: "Dance the Night Away".

Four on the Floor

Great 50's / 60's rock 'n' roll band from Adelaide, Australia, Four on the Floor
were formed in 1995 and are an experienced, professional music outfit...
The "Four" are a top-notch 50's/60's Rock 'n' Roll & Rockabilly Band
with just a nice touch of Rhythm & Blues...
The songs they play are just a smidge "up tempo" - just right
for when you want to dance the night away...
They consist of 2 excellent guitarists, stand-up drummer and a
very "easy on your eyes" female bass player...
All helped along with top-of-the-range musical equipment, P.A. system & lighting.
To book them for your next gig - contact John at: 08 8370 2468 or 0407 804 050

Tony & Tania

Tony looks quite a bit like Elvis, & at times even dresses like him - except
for when he's dressed in a suit selling cars in his "day job"...
We bought a new Ford Transit van from Tony for gorgeous, not only because
he's such a great guy, he also looks after his customers with great deals...
Tania looks a bit like Priscilla (when she's wearing a dark wig of course)
& likewise Tania sometimes dresses like Priscilla...
(Mary pictured above with Tony at Geelong Jukebox Rockers Elvis Presley Festival)...
There's quite a number of "Elvis Celebrations" held in Australia each year, but
the biggest one is the Parkes Elvis Festival in Country New South Wales,
see:  www.parkeselvisfestival.com.au  &  gorgeous parkes...
(Parkes has a large radio astronomy facility - it was to here that
the pictures were beamed directly down from the moon,
when Neil Armstrong made his "famous walk")...
Tony has won many "Elvis look-alike" competitions, & Parkes was no exception...
Tony again won the "Elvis look-alike" competition at Parkes - & Tania won the
"Priscilla look-alike" competition...      a true "double act" !!!
(Tony joked to us that he was the only competitor who appeared with
his "own hair" on display - all the others wore Elvis wigs)...
In 2002, Tony & Tania led a tour group of 25 Aussies on a holiday tour to the States,
for "Elvis Week" held on the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death...
While in the USA, Tony proposed to Tanya on the steps of Gracelands...
The "proposal" got a fair bit of local radio & TV coverage in the USA at
the time - plus heaps of radio & TV coverage in Australia...
(Tony & Tania are extremely "media attractive" - they're often
popping up on TV & radio & in mags down under)...
As you can see from the pikkies shown above, Tony & Tania have the appropriate
"wheels" - they cruise around in a fabulous 1959 cadillac coupe de ville...
Cadillac Style
1959 Classic Cadillac Car Hire

And you can even get to "do a bit of cruising" yourself - & you can also add
"a touch of class" to your special occasions - as you can hire their Caddy
Weddings    -    Debutantes    -    Formals    -    Specialty Tours
Promotional Hire    -   Corporate Chauffeuring

Also available as a quite unique treat are their "Special ELVIS Theme Tours",
with Tony dressed up as "Elvis" & Tania dressed up as "Priscilla"...
So what a "buzz" that would be - driving around in a '59 Cadillac with
"Elvis" as your chauffeur, & "Priscilla" sitting alongside...

Rockin Daddys

Within a year of their first professional gig, the Rockin Daddys have become one of
the hottest bands in the Melbourne Rock & Roll scene; playing their own brand of
50's Rock & Roll regularly at Melbourne & Victoria's leading Rock & Roll venues.
The Rockin Daddys are an exciting, class act, with powerful vocals, great music &
an unusual repertoire - they appeal to not only Rock & Roll dancers,
but also the listening crowd and Rockabilly audiences.
Line up:  Cliff Jolly - Lead Singer, Daryl Langford - Lead Guitar, Sel Adams - Rhythm Guitar,
Rattlesnake Hoey - Slap & Electric Bass, Dave Brown - Drums.
On stage Cliff & Hoey are the most energetic - with both of them around 6'4", they
have an imposing presence.   In contrast Dave is very laid back, doing his thing
on the drums, while Sel & Daryl appear the more serious of the group.
They all enjoy playing great music, entertaining and most of all, having a great time
playing material from the likes of early Elvis, Eddie Cochrane, Gene Vincent,
Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Big Joe Turner, Johnny Burnette, Ernie
Tennessee Ford, Cliff Richard, Billy Lee Riley, Robert Gordon, Go Cat Go,
Darrel Higham and several other lesser-known artists -
all performed in the Rockin Daddys own style.
The result is fabulous Rock 'n' Roll music with a great dance beat.
Unsurprisingly, they're now one of the most sought-after bands in Melbourne.
Phone Cliff to book them for your next gig on: 9558 2282, 9551 6505 or 0412370 314

Rock 'N' on Ryrie

Vicki & Rod in their cafe/restaurant decked out in a 50's rock 'n' roll style...
Simply put, it was just FABULOUS...
And it wasn't only the nostalgic decor & their friendly efficient service, they also served
excellent food & a great cup of coffee, together with fully licensed facilities...
We personally know the guys - they're also members of the "Geelong Jukebox Rockers"
dance club - so it came as no surprise to us that they had such a fantastic set-up...
However, they decided to “go in a different direction” - & Rock `N' on Ryrie is “no more”...
It's a shame really, & Geelong is the poorer as a result…

Jump 'n' Jive

Our distributors in Adelaide, Wendy & Neil, had been telling us all about a band called
Jump 'n' Jive (who are also 'gorgeous' customers) & haw fabulous they are...
Jump 'n' Jive were formed in 1999, & quickly grew to be one Adelaide's most popular
bands in the local rock 'n' roll dance scene, with their lively stage presence...
As well as R 'n' R, their diverse range of music including swing, ballads, pop rock
& disco has led to an increasing number of gigs for corporate functions...
Well, we had a chance to check them out for ourselves when we travelled
to South Australia for the Adelaide Rock 'n' Roll Festival...
Boy !!!   Can these guys belt out fabulous rock 'n' roll - their "blonde bombshell" lead
singer is great - & she has an awesome stage presence - with a voice to match...
Jump 'n' Jive are not only extremely accomplished musicians, they play a very
"danceable" mix of great classics from the 50's through to the late 60's...
Bookings through Miriam at Yellowstone Entertainment: 08 8262 8666 or 0414 504 018...

Paul Killingly

Before moving to the Whitsundays in 2001, "Long Tall Paul" played mostly in Sydney.
He began his music career as a busker, then worked 4 years as an actor/minstrel at
"Old Sydney Town" & 3 years with resident band "Stealaway" at Sydney's historic
"Argyle Tavern", also performing at the Ohio & Florida State Fairs in the USA.
Paul has always had a great love of musical theatre, performing lead roles in Godspell,
Pippin, Joseph, Charlie Brown, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,
Candide with Julia Morris & The Gingerbread Man with Belinda Emmett .
On the small screen, he has appeared in G.P., Captain Cook, The Flying Pieman
and Hey Hey Its Saturday to name but a few.
Discovering Rock 'n' Roll, Paul played with "The Echoes", the Beatles cover band
"The Beat-Alls" and then with "The Baby Boomers".
Paul returned to the bush in the early 90's with "Cat and Fiddle", "Clean Phil & the Bushrocks",
appearing through the mid 90's at the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year.
Paul's career has included puppetry, clowning, street theatre, emceeing, school shows,
bush dances and a 9 year stint as The City of Rockdale's "Official Town Crier".
Paul was voted 'Best Cry' in the Australian Championships in 1992.
In 1995, Paul got the call from legendary Aussie Rock outfit "OL' 55" to replace
Frankie J. Holden as frontman for the next 6 years.
These days, he mostly plays solo & offers a musical mix from finger-style folk to
R'n'R classics on acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, sequencer & didgeridoo.
However, Paul can still be coaxed into the occasional `big gig', notably
The Jolly Swagman Show, The Elvis Show, and The Solo '55 Rock n' Roll Show.
Paul is available in any of his many guises, & can be contacted on 07 4946 1099
